The lower accommodation deck sits nearest the waterline, with a fixed sea-view window in every cabin looking straight out at the karsts. Dark timber floors, a hand-painted green blossom panel behind the bed, an en-suite with a walk-in shower, and the quietest cabins on the ship — you are below the sundeck rather than under it.

Upstairs every cabin has a glass door onto private outside space, and the headboard panel turns from green to gold. At the stern, the two Premium cabins swap the balcony for a full terrace with sun loungers and a wraparound corner window — the best rooms on the ship, and the ones honeymooners are given.

Every cabin has the same bed linen, the same dark timber floor, the same en-suite with a hot shower and the same air conditioning. What changes is the wall you look at when you open your eyes — a fixed window, a glass door onto your own balcony, or a corner of glass with a terrace beyond it.

Every rate on this page includes the round-trip transfer from your Hanoi hotel, all four meals, both entrance fees, the kayaking and the guide — there is no cruise-only price hiding underneath. Rates are per person when two share a cabin. Travelling alone still gets you a cabin to yourself — the operator prices single occupancy separately, at a flat +$60 over the sharing rate on every class. Nobody is ever put in with a stranger. Seventeen cabins is the whole ship, so weekends and holidays close early.

The half of the trip that happens on the ship
Titov Island and Sửng Sốt Cave are why people come. What they remember is usually the evening — rolling spring rolls badly next to a chef who is too polite to say so, and a rod over the side at ten at night.

All four menus cost the same — there is no supplement for any of them. Choose yours in the booking form below and the galley provisions for it before the ship leaves the harbour; menus cannot be swapped once you are on the water. Dishes may change with the day’s market and the season. If you have an allergy, or a requirement stricter than these menus cover — no egg, no dairy, Jain, halal — write it in the notes box and we will confirm in writing with the chef before you travel.

Times shift a little with the tide, the weather and the queue at the cave.

Yes — both ways, and it is in every price on this page. A modern shuttle bus collects you between 07:45 and 08:30 from your hotel in the Old Quarter, or from the Hanoi Opera House, and brings you back to the same door around 16:00 the next day. If you are staying outside the standard pickup zone we will tell you the nearest meeting point when we confirm, or arrange a private car for a small supplement.
The bed, the bathroom, the air conditioning and the linen are identical. What you are paying for is the wall. Deluxe Sea View on deck 1 has a fixed window — a lovely view, but sealed. Deluxe Private Balcony on deck 2 has a glass door you can open onto your own balcony with two chairs. Premium Terrace is the corner cabin at the stern: windows on two sides and a terrace wide enough for two sun loungers. If you plan to sit outside with a drink and watch the bay go dark, the balcony is worth the $12 a head.
One child under five travels free with two adults, sharing your bed. A second under-five is charged half the adult rate and gets an extra bed. Children of five to eight pay 75%, and from nine they are charged as adults. The booking form works all of this out as you change the numbers, so the total you see already has it in.
No. There are four full menus — standard, vegetarian, Indian and Indian vegetarian — and all four cost the same. Choose yours in the booking form and the galley provisions for it before the ship leaves the harbour, which is why it cannot be changed once you are on the water. Every dish on all four is listed above. For anything stricter — no egg, no dairy, Jain, halal — write it in the notes and we will confirm it with the chef in writing before you travel.
About four hundred steps, steep in places, with handrails all the way and shade for most of it. Fifteen to twenty-five minutes up if you do not stop. It is genuinely optional — there is a crescent of sand at the bottom to swim from, and plenty of people do exactly that while the rest of the group climbs. Wear something with a grip; the steps get slick after rain.
For one to three cabins — which is nearly every booking — cancellation is free up to seven days before departure. From three to six days it is 30%, and inside three days the full amount. Larger groups holding four or more cabins have tighter terms because the ship is small enough that four cabins is a quarter of it. The full table is above.
Halong Bay is occasionally closed to all boats by the harbour authority — usually for a storm, a handful of days a year. It is not our decision and it applies to every cruise on the bay at once. When it happens we move you to another date at no cost, or refund you in full. If the ship sails but the sea is choppy, kayaking may be swapped for the bamboo boat; that call is the captain’s.
There is mobile signal across most of the bay and it is usually enough for messages, though it thins out among the taller islands and at the overnight anchorage. Treat the night on the water as being mostly off-grid — which, going by what guests say afterwards, turns out to be the point.
Cozy Grand entered service on 1 April 2026, so she is in her first season. Everything aboard is new — which is the upside — and she has a shorter review history than the boats that have been out there ten years, which is the honest downside. Every photograph on this page is of this ship.
Swimwear, a towel for the beach (the cabin ones stay aboard), shoes with grip for the cave and the steps, sunscreen, a light layer for the sundeck after dark and a power bank. Leave the big suitcase at your Hanoi hotel — most keep luggage free of charge, and you only need an overnight bag. Passports are required for check-in at the harbour.
